THIRD/HALF (1992)

In 1992, Biola's music department asked me to come back again to videotape their variety show, Third/Half. Of course, as a poor, recent college graduate, I gladly accepted the paltry amount of money they paid me. Armed with a couple freshman film students, we ran two cameras in genlock and switched them live, which saved me a ton of time in the editing room. However, the live cameras were very complex to wire. We were basically setting up our own mini television studio. Nothing like this had ever been done before at Biola, but I was able to successfully pull it off.

Third/Half is a variety show broken into three “halves” or segments. This year the “halves” were titled; Simplicity, Dirk Dollar and the Hour of Smiles, and Abnormal Normalities. The entire concert video is under two hours. Presented here is a single number, Mack the Knife, from the second half, Dirk Dollar and the Hour of Smiles.
