MIKE CALLAHAN MEETS DR. FAYMAR

This was one of my first student films at Biola University (1989). Our professor divided us into teams of five. Our assignment was to make a short dramatic film.

This was my first real attempt to take a vision from my head and turn it into something fun to watch. Unfortunately for my teammates, I did most (if not all) of the work writing, directing and editing.

This is an elaboration of earlier idea I had with a few of my childhood friends. The basic concept is to take a Bond-type good guy (“Mike Callahan”) then take his arch-nemesis, (“Dr. Faymar”) and have them fight a lot. That was about all there was to the idea. The name "Mike Callahan" is a blend between the main character from the Dirty Harry movies and my cousin, Mike Gilman. Faymar is actually a street (discovered by my friend Ben King) in my hometown of Salem, Oregon.

You will notice that this short film ends with the phrase “to be continued”. I had an ending written and storyboarded. It involved two stationary cars and the "state-of-the-art" blue screen. Unfortunately, I couldn't find enough people to pull it off. But our group did have enough for an "A".

The short also contains some bloopers at the end.
